the best thing about whippet's is......
their beautiful eyes, which can see through me when i pretend I'm cross about something naughty they've done!!!
their little wrinkly necks when they curl up and sleep next to me.....
oh and their happy tails whenever I enter the room.....
I think they love me......
oh and also the way they share everything with me...my sofa, my bed, my food LOL
so what's the best thing about whippet's for you?

The best thing about Whippets for me is ..... The way they talk to you
The cheeky way they pinch things, then give it to you as a gift
The lovely friends I have made through having Whippets
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”

mine has to be their loyalty! i love how a whippet chooses one person as their best friend, my dad is whispers favourite but willow chose me! she loves to be at my side and doesn't want anyone else, she sleeps with me, watches tv with me and curls up on the landing while i am in the shower
i really dont know what i would do without her, i have met so many amazing friends through showing willow.

Their loyalty
Their love
Their joire de vivre
Their kisses and cuddles
They are everything I love about every dog I've ever met all rolled into one.

The best thing about whippets is the way they know when you are sad and their way of comforting you, just to let you know that they are there. I have had some amazing moments with my whippets over the years but the one that never leaves me is the night my dad died, it was the middle of the night and everyone had eventually gone to bed, I was alone downstairs, Sparky who loves his bed and never leaves it after his bedtime treat, joined me on the sofa, snuggled up to me and gently licked away my tears, he didn't close his eyes just stayed there. The greatest prize your whippet can give is not won in the ring, on the track or in the field, it is their love and devotion and I would never want a time when I did not have a whippet in my life.
Jenny
For me , they are a joy to live with ( usually) I wouldnt want any other breed ( except a racing greyhound )
I`m just putty in their hands I`m afraid. One look with those eyes and even if Im cross because one has chewed/stolen my dinner etc , I`m not cross for long.
Jemma
is that having been laid up for 48 hours with an awful dose of flu, Bluebell didn't leave my side, kept me warm and didn't ask anything of me

i haven't got my boy yet, but the most wonderful thing about a Whippet is their speed, the total delirium on their face while they sprint at high speed. i also love the 360 spins they do. the soft smooth coat, big playful eyes. i absolutely love the slender, fragile frame but deep down you know they are not very fragile. and in the looks department a Whippet outdoes many a dog.
REALLY can't wait to get my boy!

Everything, even when my two puppies are greeting me at the door.
One with a mouthful of kitchen carpet and sections of the rug, the other with a mouthful of wallpaper as they systematically destroy our home!!! they are ever so pleased with themselves showing me their handywork!!!! they soon drop whatever parts of home they are showing me then charge up to be seen, little tails wagging and wanting to give kisses and have cuddles. The conversation goes a little like ........ from me to them .... from them to me
So I just clean up the parts of home strewn around the place, sit down with them in whats left of home, having cuddles then wait for the next round of demolition upon my return!!!!
Don't you just love them!!!
Torber
LOL Thats what you get when you have an Aphrael puppy !! lol
Jemma
I had one of those! She was a little devil till she reached her second birthday, then overnight she changed into a little angel. That's my Dotty!

The best thing about whippets is that they are whippets!!!!! Love them all.

Oh No!
I'm in total agreement with AnneV again.
The best thing about Whippets are that they are Whippets and have no pretensions to be anything else.

What a wonderful story, they are special indeed

They accept you as you are, doesn't matter whether you are old or young, rich or poor, beautiful or ugly you can just be yourself and they are happy.

The best thing about Whippets is their glass is always always brimming over and never ever only half full.
And the other thing is one is never enough.
They come in a huge range of colours.. one to suit everyone
And I totally totally love them with all my heart (that goes for my Salukis as well)
Whippety woo
And I totally totally love them with all my heart (that goes for my Salukis as well)
when you put it like that, trashing his coat seems such a minor transgression!
I do agree very much with the glass brimming over sentiment though, my two are the happiest little people I've ever met, they seem to find great pleasure in the simplest things....like chasing a blowing leaf!!
I'm going to try and be more Whippet like, live and let live...
Whippet Cuddles!
Seeing the beautiful faces when you wake up in the morning
whippet kisses
Whippet's when they play
Watching whippets run
The joy of whippets
They know when somethings wrong and they try and make you feel better
The comfort of whippets
The BEST thing about whippets is.............EVERYTHING about them I just love them to bits!!
Hannahbelle
The best things about my whippet are:
the welcome I get whether I have been at work all day or just returned from emptying the bins
Having a Permanently warm bed And really clean toes
Learning to share, especially food and pillows
Knowing I can trust him 100% to always be good natured and keep my mrs company when I work all night
Knowing I can take him anywhere and he will never do anything to let me down and will always be happy to have come along
I love the last sentence..( and i must say I do like your username )

That's such a touching story
One of mine does the same if I'm ever upset; the other just stares at me and barks. He obviously doesn't know how to cope with an emotional female!
gemma
- the high speed, flat out sprint
- their velvety expressive ears
jackal
For me it is the speed but combined with their natural grace and agility. Sugden takes my breath away at times, stunning to watch.
I love the fact that they always want to be with or near me. Not necessarily in my lap, Sugden doesn't do laps but Ripley does, but he has to be as close to me as possible. I usually end up with Ripley on my lap and Sugden snuggled up to my side. I call them my whippet blanket.
Charlie, Sugden & Ripley
I particularly love the way what they are thinking is so clearly expressed in their faces (except the black ones who I find inscrutable) - varying emotions flit one after the other as they think about what they hope for then look for evidence that it is going to happen and joy when it does. When Frosty came back from a longed for run last Saturday, someone remarked, "I've never seen a whippet with such a happy face" and it was

They do have expressive faces don't they,Merlin can't hide his disgust at the sight of a puddle!
whippetsrule
Ready to run or ready to sleep - all in the space of a few seconds lol!
Being happy with a ten minute walk or a 10 mile hike.
gypsysmum
The smell of a warm whippet curled under a blanket sleeping....mmmmmmmm.
The soft ears like velvet.
The way they look at you.
The way they make you feel proud when they are better behaved than other dogs you meet when out and about.
The way they come to you when you call them from a way off and they run like the wind with a smile on their face!
The way they greet you when you get home.
Their beautiful elegant graceful bodies.
The way they roach on the carpet.
The way they talk to you when they want to play.
The little woofs from under the duvet when the cat comes in or the postman comes.
The way they rest their head on your lap and stare adoringly at ...... what you are eating!
Their lovely pink bellies.
The way they fart and then look round to see where the noise came from LOL!
The way they tuck their nose into their hip when they curl up tight and squish it like a little womble.

the best thing about whippets is no matter what strange things they're doing, they just melt your heart............
whippetsrule
The best thing about Whippets is... not matter how muddy they get on their walk, as if by magic its all fallen off by the time you get home.
And the way they can spin around on a sixpence with death defying speed
Whippety woo
There's just so much to love about whippets... But one of the things I love most is the way they fly down the drive to greet me in the morning when I get in from work... Even occaisionally Joker who is now 17 years old & has alzheimers!
The other thing that makes them special is "whippet ballet" when they twist & turn & play at high speed, just because they are whippets & they can...

This morning I have been given a reminder that the very best thing about Whippet's is their absolute joy for life.....
Took mine into the woods for a run and they were just amazing to watch. They were dashing about like maniacs(especially Mr Fawn),bouncing around like they had springs in their feet....leaping the stream back and forth and just having the best time a whippet could have.....Mr Brown ran too fast and jumped too late and landed in the stream and got himself a cold bath, then ran like a nutter to dry off.....it was hilarious and just lovely......
They got plastered in wet mud and had a good bath when they got home then they just stretched out in the sun for a snooze....such sweet easily pleased little people!
Whippet's are the best
whippetsrule
I love the cold wet nose poking my eye in the morning when he wants to wake me up!!! It's the nicest alarm call EVER lol...

I love this thread! I think I'll add it to the new main website I'm building in the Articles and Information section with all the members comments. It makes lovely reading and will show people researching the breed a real insight into whippets.
Keep them coming people......
TCx
ALL of the above, plus their eagerness to please and delightful sense of humour! .... and whatever position they assume, they always look elegant (my favourite is the frog dog position)
Jasbri
love these pics ipitomises whippets perfectly
Johny
Watching them run and the happiness it brings them!
Shaking themselves when wet with the crazy legs all over the place always makes me laugh!
Most graceful of dogs, utterly beautiful in every way!
Loved them since I saw Lucian Freud's "Double Portrait"
wem
I know what you mean about the running:
...and the big whippet grin they give you to show how much fun they're having
...and when they shake themselves, it's not just legs that go all over the place:
That's why I love whippets too

I love the loyalty, even though Flo is a princess she is still very loyal,
I love the cuddles & kisses & the conversations we have.
I love her ears,
Ears, flat back or straight up, folded over, there are ears for every mood!
How happy she is all of the time, I came home from work in a foul mood today & after the drama of giving them lunch they both made me laugh & have cheered me up, even when they were fighting on me!

Oh Yes - me too - the Lucian Freud's "Double Portrait" - just so perfect. Did anyone else watch "Lucian Freud: Painted Life", with whippets obviously the best part of the programme. One day I will get someone to draw my beautiful whippet -

Nothing beats a Whippet Excitement Spin...Until owning a Whippet, I had never experienced anything that could bounce and spin 180 degrees so fast your leash gets wound up like a coiled spring... our whippet is only 5mths and I hope she never grows out of it! It makes me die with laughter every time!
